Autumn is a beautiful time in New England. The leaves are putting on a colorful show, Mother Nature is usually cooperative with mild temperatures and low humidity, and the kids are back at school!
Burlington, Massachusetts is an especially great place should you and your family be looking for some fun fall activities. From leaf peeping to arts and cultural events, Burlington has something for everyone looking for outdoor activities or more subdued indoor events. Let’s explore some activities you can enjoy with the whole family this fall.
Leaf Peeping
Located just 30 minutes from the bustling City of Boston, Burlington offers lots of outdoor space to enjoy nature and take in the annual changing of the leaves. Here are two local trails that will allow you to bike, walk, hike, or run with family while you take in all that the outdoors offers.
Minuteman Commuter Bikeway
If your family wants to get outdoors and be active, the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway is one option to explore. This bikeway is one of the most popular and successful rail trails in the United States. Families enjoy this trail for its passage through historic areas linked to the American Revolution as well as a way to enjoy some healthy recreation. The real bonus is viewing the transformation of the trees along the path as fall turns to winter.
The trail has access points in neighboring towns of Bedford and Lexington and is maintained by the communities it passes through – Bedford, Lexington, Arlington, and Cambridge. Enjoy a day out on the trail with family as you enjoy the fall weather and views.
Mill Pond Reservation and Conservation Area
Located on Winter Street in Burlington, the Mill Pond Reservation and Conservation Area is a wonderful place to enjoy a hike or walk with family and your favorite pup (on leash). The 2.0-mile loop trail takes under an hour to finish and is generally viewed as a very family and child-friendly trail.
Take a break at the picnic point, bring your rods to catch some fish or just enjoy the sounds of solitude as you enjoy your walk.
Arts & Culture
If exploring the performing arts or motion picture scene is more your style, Burlington has some great options to take in a show or a movie this fall.
