If you’ve ever visited the Wayside shopping center on Wayside Road in Burlington, Massachusetts, you know what a different shopping experience this village-style shopping area truly is. Drive onto the property and you will immediately notice the clean, neatly manicured landscaping and the pedestrian-friendly brick walkways. You’ll also notice the 195,000 square feet of shopping that lays before you. It’s a shopper’s paradise!
Wayside is set up for it to be easy for customers to visit a mix of popular national stores and eateries as well as original independent retailers. With plentiful parking and green event space, Wayside is a destination for many.
If that’s not enough to catch your attention, the fact that the stores can easily be seen from Exit 51a of Interstate 95/Route 128 means that customers will be wondering what’s new and on sale each time they drive by!
Wayside opened in 2006 and Wilder Co. started managing the center in 2011. Wilder manages over 40 properties across New England and each one is known for its commitment to collaboration with the stores and the community at large. The “Wilder Way” for each of its properties focuses on a “highly effective approach that identifies goals, aligns objectives and prioritizes constant communication and collaboration at all levels.” In other words, they listen to their tenants and customers and strive to give them what they want in a collaborative manner.

Special Programming
Not only is Wayside an amazing place to shop and eat, but it is also a wonderful outdoor place where the community can come together. The Greenway space is often used for community events such as children’s concerts, farmers’ and artisan markets, and holiday events! This special programming is what makes visiting Wayside unique and very different from other shopping areas.
One of the upcoming events this month is the Farmers & Artisan Market at Wayside! Join them on Jun 21, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm for fresh local produce and crafts/arts on the Greenway.
Additional programming includes a music and puppet show for children and regular visits from the Cousins Maine Lobster Truck every other Wednesday. Customers enjoy sitting at the picnic tables in the Greenway while they take a break from shopping with a treat from Starbucks or Cold Stone Creamery.
Unique to Wayside is the opportunity to shop at Pop-Up Shops. Made In Burlington, a long-term pop-up store of local crafters has become quite popular with our shoppers.
How Burlington Plays A Role In Wayside’s Success
According to Carrie Berger, Marketing Manager at Wayside, “The Town of Burlington has been a great partner and supports Wayside community events and tenant promotions as well as the Wayside tenants. Wayside is a member of the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce.”
Wayside’s location in Burlington has also been impactful on the overall success of the property. Berger notes that “the location in Burlington is great and the close proximity to highways is easy for customers to enjoy shopping and fine or casual dining. Route 95 boasts over 179k all-day traffic, so it’s an incredibly robust area and community.”
