There’s something special about walking into a place where everything feels intentional. The smell of fresh pastries, the warmth of a thoughtfully designed space, and the sense that you’re meant to stay a while. That’s exactly what’s coming to Burlington with the opening of JulieAnne’s Bakery and Cafe at 154 Cambridge Street on May 15.
For the owner, Julie Lewis, this isn’t just a business. It’s personal.
“I’ve had the idea to have my own bakery since I was a kid,” she shared. “It’s been my lifelong dream.”
That dream has been years in the making. After studying at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and building experience everywhere from Wegmans to the local People Helping People food pantry, she’s spent her career refining both her craft and her approach to baking. Along the way, one idea became especially important to her work: community.
Julie’s most recent role at the food pantry helped bring that motivation into even sharper focus.
“It bolstered my confidence in my ability to do this because I really got plugged into the community,” she said. “That was the piece that was missing before.”
Now, everything has come together at exactly the right time.

Rooted in Burlington
Choosing where to open the bakery wasn’t really much of a decision for Julie. Burlington was the only location that made sense.
“I didn’t like the idea of going anywhere else,” she said. “I love this town.”
After more than 20 years here, she’s built a life rooted in the community, raising a family, showing up for local organizations, and forming the kind of connections that don’t happen overnight. This isn’t simply where she’s opening a business. It’s where JulieAnne’s Bakery and Cafe belongs.
“I feel like I understand this community,” she said. “Burlington really shows up for its small businesses.”
A Focus on Quality You Can Taste
At its core, JulieAnne’s is all about quality. Everything is homemade, with a level of care that’s becoming harder to find.
“My focus is on quality ingredients and making pastries from scratch.”
That commitment to excellence shows up in the menu, especially in the items she’s most proud of.
Julie’s pies are a standout feature, made with a fully handmade crust that she says will never be replaced with anything pre-made. Her apple pie recipe has been perfected over the years, and the blueberry pie is her personal favorite.
And then there are the cinnamon rolls.
“I’ve been making the same recipe since I was a teenager,” Julie noted. “It’s a winner.”
Beyond that, the bakery will offer decorated cakes, seasonal treats, and custom creations for birthdays, graduations, and everyday celebrations. It’s the kind of place where every detail is carefully considered, from a simple cookie to a once-in-a-lifetime milestone cake.
Something You Won’t Find Anywhere Else Nearby
One of the bakery’s most distinctive offerings will be its Sunday afternoon tea service.
“We’re excited to feature a traditional English-style afternoon tea,” she explained.
Guests will reserve their spot and be welcomed into a thoughtfully set dining room, where the experience feels both elegant and immersive. Tea will be served in individual pots and poured into delicate teacups, alongside tiered trays filled with mini sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and bite-sized desserts.
It will be a refined, almost storybook-style experience that’s rare to find locally, and something she’s especially eager to introduce to Burlington. If this offering resonates with customers, there are already plans to expand it.

Built to Be a Gathering Place
While the food is central to the bakery’s mission, the space itself is just as important. From the beginning, the goal has been to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. A place where people can meet, work, and spend time together.
Located just a short walk from the Town Common and nearby offices, JulieAnne’s is designed with flexibility in mind. There will be Wi-Fi, plenty of outlets, and a layout that encourages customers to settle in.
“I would love for people to come and hang out, have their meetings or just work for a couple hours.”
Opening Soon
JulieAnne’s will officially open to the public on May 15. Behind the scenes, a team of nearly twenty employees is already coming together to prepare, many of them locals themselves, bringing even more of Burlington into the business from day one.
A Sweet Addition to Burlington
From its handcrafted pastries to its focus on community connection, JulieAnne’s Bakery and Cafe is more than just a place to grab coffee. It’s a reflection of years of passion, a deep connection to Burlington, and a genuine desire to create something meaningful for the community.
“It’s a sweet little location,” Julie said with a smile.
Soon, it will be filled with moments that make a place truly special — conversations over coffee, celebrations marked with a sweet treat, and maybe even a new Sunday tradition built around tea.
Beginning May 15, JulieAnne’s Bakery and Cafe will open its doors at 154 Cambridge Street. You won’t just visit once — you’ll find yourself coming back again and again, for the feeling it creates just as much as the food it serves.
