For the last four years, the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) has named pickleball the fastest-growing sport in America. Its massive surge in popularity and rapid growth in America may be due to its affordable equipment, easy-to-learn rules, and fun games for all ages and skill levels. Pickleball has become a household name, with a staggering 171.1% increase in participants over the past few years.
If you have caught pickleball fever, as many in our area have, let us introduce you to a new Burlington business; The Picklr, the subject of this month’s Burlington Business Spotlight.
What is The Picklr?
The Picklr, located at 40 Ray Avenue, is a nationwide pickleball facility that recently expanded into Burlington, Massachusetts. The impressive 20,000 sq ft Burlington facility offers eight regulation-sized pickleball courts, a Pro Shop, a private events area, and locker rooms with showers.It is one of over 100 locations that will be open across the nation by year’s end.
The welcome addition of this growing business in Burlington will not only give pickleball fans a place to develop their skills with expert clinics, lessons, and leagues but also provide a unique, close-knit community of pickleballers to engage with.
The Uniqueness of The Picklr
Franchise Owner James Maguire explained in a recent interview that the facility’s uniqueness is that it is “a pickleball facility, for pickleball people.” Picklr is the best indoor pickleball facility around for many reasons, but most of all for the detailed planning and thought that went into creating a pickleball-only facility.
For instance, the professionally installed five layers of the court surface were designed with pickleball in mind to be forgiving on joints and allow for the highest level of play. The sound baffling system dampens the sound of surrounding games, providing a more enjoyable acoustic experience. Additionally, the lighting was carefully planned to allow for the illumination of the entire court with no dark areas. Premium nets, seating and courts round out the impressive facility.
Not only is the Picklr well thought out in its physical design, but it also offers 17 hours of play time each day from 6 am to 11 pm. Membership to the Picklr is an ideal option for pickleball enthusiasts as it offers access to four free clinics monthly, reservation of courts, open play times, and tournaments. For those who are just learning the sport, the Burlington Picklr location also offers pay-per-clinic, open play times and access to lessons.
Picklr Leagues
The Picklr in Burlington offers a variety of pickleball leagues, including singles, doubles, mixed, King of the Court, Queen of the Court, Ladder Leagues and special events throughout the year. These leagues are offered either as reserved sessions or drop-ins.
Open Play
Not sure you have the time to sign up for a regular league but still want to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of playing pickleball? Open play is offered throughout the day at Picklr in Burlington, including Breakfast Ball (morning), Beat the Heat/Break the Ice (afternoon during summer/winter) and Midnight Mayhem (night). Each open play is available for all skill levels and intensities 1-5.
Youth Programs
If your child has the inkling to learn or advance their pickleball game, the Youth Programs at Burlington Picklr may be the ideal group for your young one.
The Picklr offers a Junior Academy Membership for youth ages 8-18. This membership provides access to a built-in pickleball community and programming, including clinics, open play, tournaments, leagues, and court reservations, all for one monthly price.
