100 years. That’s a century of hand-stretched lobster tails, perfectly layered Tiramisu, and a steady promise of quality that has anchored communities from East Boston to Burlington. Since 1926, the LaCascia family has been crafting not just the finest Italian pastries and deli meats, but a remarkable, enduring legacy. Join us as we celebrate the four-generation, family-owned LaCascia’s Bakery & Deli II on this incredible centennial milestone in this month’s Burlington Business Spotlight.
A Century of Tradition: The LaCascia Story
Authentic Italian pastries, the finest breads, imported Italian cold cuts, traditional baked goods and above all else, exceptional customer service are the ingredients to a successful neighborhood bakery business.

The LaCascia family knows this recipe by heart, having refined it since 1926. With the opening of their modest bakery and convenience store in East Boston, Italian immigrants Peter and Phyllis LaCascia established a family-run legacy, instantly recognizable for its dedication to the finest breads, fresh bakery items, and quality cold cuts.
Even at the height of the Great Depression, the family’s commitment never wavered. In 1929, they moved the operation to a family neighborhood in Medford, ensuring the business remained a reliable source of support for the community during hard times.

Over the next few decades, the LaCascia family continued to thrive by adding products, such as imported Italian deli meats, and became one of the first local delis to carry Boar’s Head Brand cold cuts for discerning customers. By 1980, Anthony, the youngest of Peter and Phyllis’ five children, made another move. With support from his three children, Renee, Anthony, and David, as well as his son-in-law, Chris, LaCascia’s Bakery & Deli II opened on Cambridge Street in Burlington, launching a full-service bakery specializing in authentic Italian pastries. Through each generation, the LaCascias remained dedicated to personalized customer service and the goal of not only meeting customers’ expectations but exceeding them.

Burlington Plays A Role
The LaCascia’s Bakery & Deli tradition may have started in the Italian neighborhood of Boston 100 years ago, but it has been a Burlington landmark for nearly 5 decades, making it one of the most iconic businesses in our region. The patriarch of the LaCascia family, Anthony, made a smart business move by relocating to the burgeoning town of Burlington, where the Burlington Mall area was growing at a record pace. The proximity to many other businesses and its location directly at several highway crossroads put LaCascia’s just a quick drive from neighboring towns, making the deli and bakery a “must visit” for all things sweet and savory.
