How the Crack’d Concept Hatched
The Crack’d Kitchen & Coffee concept was inspired by a shared love of breakfast foods and a friendly collaboration between co-founders Danny Azzarello, Alan Frati, and their wives, Emma and Meghan. The idea for Crack’d truly took shape about 7 years ago and has expanded quickly since.
The fast-casual, chef-driven breakfast and lunch concept initially launched in Andover, Massachusetts, in March 2019. Emphasizing high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and craft coffee, the brand expanded quickly to five locations, including the original in Andover, as well as new additions in Peabody, Salem, NH, Plantation Walk, Florida, and Burlington, the newest.
The Crack’d Philosophy
The founders didn’t just crack an idea; they hatched a set of core principles that guide everything they do. Known as the Crack’d Credo, this seven-point list of principles defines their commitment to quality and service.
At the end of every day, they ask themselves if they have met these guiding principles including: Giving Back, getting involved in the community and giving back to the vendors that make this organization possible; Keep It Simple, which embraces the idea that good food doesn’t need to be complicated; Positive Energy, by providing a welcoming environment to every customer; Do The Right Thing, by building trust and transparency; Operational Excellence, making a great product every time; Culture First, with a focus on employees and a healthy work-life balance; and Inspire Innovation, by thinking outside the box.
These core values guide Danny and Alan as they continue to expand the Crack’d brand. The vision that began on a whiteboard in Danny’s living room has become the core values that keep them focused on providing an elevated experience that honors their passion for food and their commitment to their employees and families.
Cracking Open the Menu
It’s not just their guiding mission that makes Crack’d so unique; it’s the menu of fresh options featuring breakfast bowls, craft sandwiches, salad bowls, and mac and cheese that will have customers coming back.
Their menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner items is meant to be both comfort food and innovative. The environment is meant to be a place regulars return to again and again for its customer service and welcoming vibe. Whether you love morning staples, lunch favorites or are craving some nighttime fried chicken goodness, Crack’d has something for everyone on their menu.
The Crack’d menu includes egg sandwiches that can be ordered all day, ranging from “The Basic” that satisfies cravings for eggs, cheese, and meats on a brioche roll, all the way to “The Big Commute” that fills even the largest appetite with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns, and of course, cheese! According to the owner and co-founder, Danny Azzarello, the most popular egg sandwich is “The Live Free or Die,” which features cage-free eggs, country bacon, cheddar cheese, and CKC ketchup on a brioche roll.
Their unique bowls and plates offer a variety of options such as “Greens & Grains” and “Mac Bowls,” including the Sunny Chorizo Bowl. Lunch offerings include hand-breaded chicken tenders (the Tender Box), specialty sandwiches like the BAM Bird, and various wraps, not to mention their mac and cheese that makes an art out of this staple with the BBQ Brisket option. Be sure to taste the Crispy Chicken Wrap, as it is a fan favorite!
The drink menu is equally exciting, offering milkshakes, iced coffees, energy drinks, espresso, and smoothies. The Vanilla Cream Coffee is a leading contender for morning regulars. You may need to visit often to taste every item on their menu.
Crack’d Burlington location’s hours are Monday through Friday: 6 am-8 pm and Saturday & Sunday: 6 am-4 pm.
Burlington Plays a Role
When asked why Burlington became a location of choice, Azzarello responded that the town has always been on his radar because it embraces the entrepreneurial spirit the Crack’d team embodies. The Burlington location’s proximity to major highways, the robust restaurant scene, and family-friendly environment led them to choose it.
Azzarello noted that “Burlington has a booming economy and has all the things we were looking for, including a fun, lively location where our customers can linger outside and play cornhole. Or enjoy the patio for dinner or after sports.”
