April 1, 2026
Shake off that cabin fever and shed those winter layers. With the April school vacation on the horizon, it’s time to start planning an unforgettable week with your family. From activities and events planned by the Burlington Parks and Recreation for preschool age, youth, teens and adults, to historic reenactments just a short drive away in Lexington and Concord, there is something for everyone in the Burlington region this April.
Planning your itinerary for your family may depend on interests, age and activity level. Here are some suggestions for curing your cabin fever and kicking off spring with fun, educational activities.
Enjoy an Egg Hunt
Spring has sprung and the bunny has been busy hiding eggs all over Simmonds Park! Sponsored by Burlington Orthodontics, the Egg Hunt will begin promptly at 5:30 pm on April 2nd. There is no fee for this resident-only activity, but you should register online at the Burlington Parks and Recreation website and arrive early to secure your hunting grounds.
Learn a New Sport
If you are planning a ‘staycation’ this April school vacation, consider planning a week of outdoor activities to keep your family active and entertained. Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America, with more people picking up a paddle every day. Fun for all ages and skill levels, your family could learn the sport and start playing independently at one of the local pickleball courts.
Burlington Parks and Recreation’s Spring Brochure 2026 offers a “Learn to Play Pickleball,” “Next Level Pickleball,” and “Drop in Pickleball” to accommodate all levels of knowledge and skill. It could be a fun way to learn a sport with your family and turn it into a lifelong activity you enjoy.
Take in a Show
Check out the list of trips, tours and shows offered through Burlington Parks and Rec, including the Viva Las Elvis show at Castleton Banquet Center in Windham, NH. Transportation and tickets to the show are included in the registration fee to enjoy “the King” (Dan Fontaine) and the Memphis Sun Mafia Band in concert on April 16th. Explore the list of other trips and tours throughout the year and get your family involved.

Step Back in Time: Reenactments in Lexington & Concord
Just a few miles down the road in historic Lexington and Concord, your family could enjoy a weekend of history commemorating the famous Battles of Lexington & Concord, as well as this year’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War.
Enjoy the opening moments of the American Revolution with moving reenactments, solemn ceremonies, and vibrant community events. Starting on April 17th at 9 pm, witness the reenactment of the famous ride of Paul Revere as he warned John Hancock and Samual Adams, along with other Patriot leaders, about the coming of the Red Coats from Boston. On April 18th, starting before dawn, the Battle Green comes alive as militia and British regulars recreate April 19, 1775. Along with reenactments of the “show heard round the world,” you will enjoy period attire worn by Minutemen and Redcoats, as well as activities at Monroe Tavern, headquarters and hospital during the battles, and the Battle at Tower Park, commemorating the retreat of British soldiers from the area.
Starting at 1:30 pm on April 18th, you can enjoy the Patriots Day Parade, which features colonial reenactors, marching bands, fife and drum corps, and dignitaries. Explore the full event schedule on the Tour Lexington site.
